Susan Shields, M.S., CCC/SLP
Director
Susan has been in the field of evaluating and treating communication disorders since 1981. She graduated with Honors from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Plattsburgh in 1980 with a B.S. in Speech & Hearing Science, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from TCU in 1981 with a M.S. in Communications Disorders. She opened Shields Speech and Language Services in 2004 in Colleyville, Texas. Prior to that, Susan was a member of the Child Study Center team in Ft. Worth, taught graduate school and served as a clinical advisor to graduate students at NOVA Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, worked in other private practice and public school settings, and consulted to a number of public and private educational facilities, including Westlake Academy, an International Baccalaureate program. She has co-authored two games (WordBurst & Rocky’s Mountain) to improve word-finding abilities, which have been published by LinguiSystems, a leading provider of innovative, therapeutically-sound materials for speech-language pathologists.

In addition to providing speech and language services to students with speech sound disorders, stuttering, early language delay, receptive and expressive language differences, Susan has taken a special interest in social thinking deficits involving high functioning autism-spectrum disorders and academic issues with the language/learning challenged population.

Susan provides on-site services to students in need at The Novus Academy, Covenant Christian Academy, and Waypoint Montessori School in Colleyville. In addition, she sees many clients individually and in small groups in her Colleyville office. She works diligently to develop programs that will integrate language processing strategies with academic demands. She works cooperatively with teachers, occupational therapists, educational diagnosticians, special education teachers and parents to provide the most cohesive programming possible.

Susan is the proud mother of three adult children!
